To Halloween Or Not To Halloween?
My husband was raised in a family of very conservative Christians. They also happened to love celebrating Halloween. For them it was just a night of harmless fun. They considered it to be in the same category as the apostle Paul's statements about the eating of meat offered to idols.
My husband adopted their conservative values but never felt the same freedom to celebrate Halloween. He is fine with Fall Festivals. And, he loves the idea of celebrating Reformation Day (Martin Luther nailed the 95 theses to the church door at Wittenberg on October 31, 1517). But he hates everything related to Halloween.
I am more like his family. I think it is harmless.
So, needless to say, we inevitably have discussions this time of year about what our five children can and cannot participate in. Usually, my husband takes a hard line early on and then softens later. So, I have to be prepared when at 5:30 on October 31 he relents and lets me take the kids Trick or Treating.
I guess everyone has the same need to prepare ahead of time for costumes and such, even if they don't have to go through last minute negotiations with a spouse. So, you may be interested in HalloweenAdventure.com. Oh, and just in case you are philosophically closer to my husband than me, in addition to a huge variety of Halloween costumes, you can find costumes suitable for Fall Festivals and Reformation Day celebrations. They even have Christmas Costumes . You can also use their store locator to find Halloween Costume Stores.
Have a happy whatever!

I'm not a big fan of Halloween, but, if Barack Obama wins the election Nov. 4, I think parents around the country will be able to use Halloween 2009 as a teachable moment for their kids to understand what socialism really is. In short, he'll ask them to "spread the candy around."
Here is why this Christian doesn't celebrate Halloween:
