Thou Know'st My Daughter's Of A Pretty Age

In Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Lady Capulet and Nurse discuss the issue of Juliet's age and the prospect of marriage. It is deduced that Juliet has hit upon the ripe old age of fourteen.

LADY CAPULET Marry, that 'marry' is the very theme

I came to talk of. Tell me, daughter Juliet,

How stands your disposition to be married? 70
JULIET It is an honour that I dream not of.
Nurse An honour! were not I thine only nurse,

I would say thou hadst suck'd wisdom from thy teat.
LADY CAPULET Well, think of marriage now; younger than you,

Here in Verona, ladies of esteem, 75

Are made already mothers: by my count,

I was your mother much upon these years

That you are now a maid. Thus then in brief:

The valiant Paris seeks you for his love.
Nurse A man, young lady! lady, such a man 80

As all the world--why, he's a man of wax.
LADY CAPULET Verona's summer hath not such a flower.
Nurse Nay, he's a flower; in faith, a very flower.
LADY CAPULET What say you? can you love the gentleman?

This night you shall behold him at our feast;

In our current culture the prospect of fourteen year old girls getting married is viewed as ridiculous and in all fifty states (as far as I am aware) it is illegal. However, this has not been the trend during most of recorded history, even church history. Let us not forget that God Himself conferred motherhood on a young girl named Mary who was in all probability, about fourteen. Can we honestly say God was wrong, that he should have chosen a more mature recipient?

As Christians assess the situation in Texas of the polygamous FLDS ranch raided by authorities, we should keep several things in mind. First, if there is proof that underage marriage was going on, that is a clear violation of Texas law and those guilty should be held responsible. Second, if there were multiple 'spiritual marriages' taking place, those involved might not be technically breaking Texas law but they are guilty of adultery. God created marriage to be between one man and one woman and when Old Testament figures departed from this model (despite God's warning) the result was often disastrous.

So while I abhor the idea of these strange, adulterous, plural relationships taking place (particularly because they believe this is somehow God's will), I don't believe it is the role of government to step in and take control without a clear violation of the law. I also abhor Hugh Hefner's strange, adulterous, plural relationships but I wouldn't want the government to step in and take control there either.

As for the children born out of these tangled relationships, we'll have to wait and see how this plays out in the courts. I believe every child should be treated as a separate case, to ensure that those who haven't broken any laws are not painted with the same broad brush as those who have. I find it troubling that these children, some merely infants, are still separated from their parents while no criminal arrests have been made.

As Christians we should remember we are bound to our current culture far more than we realize. We may frown on the FLDS women for their hairstyle and dress but we should be careful about wishing for governmental authorities to exert pressure on anyone, simply because they are odd and not conforming to the trends of twenty first century American culture. Who knows when we will be considered the odd nonconformists?

New York Times Boosts McCain Support

The New York Times did McCain a huge favor by printing spurious innuendo which implied that John McCain had been involved in an inappropriate relationship. Conservatives who had themselves been attacking McCain's conservative credentials quickly came to McCain's defense. McCain needs to send the New York Times a thank you note for helping unite feuding Republicans.

Mitt Romney And Homosexual Marriage

Mitt Romney's support for the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which adds “sexual orientation” to a list of federally protected classes has conservatives squirming. ENDA would require Christian organizations to hire gay employees.

Further, according to Peter LaBarbera, founder of Republicans For Family Values, “Laws that treat homosexuality as a civil right are being used to promote homosexual ‘marriage,’ same-sex adoption and pro-homosexuality indoctrination of schoolchildren. These same laws pose a direct threat to the freedom of faith-minded citizens and organizations to act on their religious belief that homosexual behavior is wrong.”

It looks like we will be seeing much more of what is found at THIS LINK if Mitt Romney manages to get elected.

Phony As A Three-Dollar Bill

From Joseph Farah's article, "The Many Faces Of Mitt":

"First, from a logical standpoint, this makes no sense. If you can't see why stabbing an unborn baby in the head with a pair of scissors is an overtly evil act, I don't think any amount of study of embryonic stem cell research will awaken your sense of moral outrage. But that's what Romney would like us to believe. After all, he's got to explain why he discovered so late in his public life that people have an inherent right to life." (Read More . . . )

Mitt Romney Disqualified As A Pro-Family Advocate

Mitt Romney's Christmas Present to the 'Gay' Lobby Should End Pro-Family Leaders' Support for his Candidacy

Contact: Peter LaBarbera, 630-717-7631, rffv@comcast.net

CHICAGO, December 26, /Christian Newswire/ -- Peter LaBarbera, longtime pro-family advocate and founder of the Republicans For Family Values website, is calling on pro-family leaders who have endorsed Mitt Romney to withdraw their support for his candidacy in light of his recent comments on NBC's "Meet the Press" supporting pro-homosexual "sexual orientation" state laws.

"Mitt Romney's Christmas present to the homosexual lobby disqualifies him as a pro-family leader," LaBarbera said. "Laws that treat homosexuality as a civil right are being used to promote homosexual 'marriage,' same-sex adoption and pro-homosexuality indoctrination of schoolchildren. These same laws pose a direct threat to the freedom of faith-minded citizens and organizations to act on their religious belief that homosexual behavior is wrong.

"Romney may have had a late conversion on abortion, but it appears his ninth-inning flip-flop on homosexuality is falling short due to his strong commitment to 'gay rights,'" LaBarbera said. (See the 'Mitt Romney Deception' report) "Now some pro-family leaders –– who have raised millions of dollars over the years opposing 'gay' activism –– will need to explain how they can go on supporting an openly pro-homosexual-agenda candidate."

LaBarbera said it is "inconceivable after Massachusetts' twin disasters involving homosexual 'marriage' and homosexual adoption that Romney now is recommending pro-homosexual 'orientation' laws –– long derided as "special rights" among social conservatives — to the rest of the nation.

"In Romney's own state of Massachusetts, the state 'sexual orientation' nondiscrimination law laid the groundwork for homosexual activists' campaign to legalize 'same-sex marriage' –– which then-Gov. Romney brought to fruition with his unnecessary and illegal directive granting marriage licenses to homosexual partners," LaBarbera said. "The same pro-gay state law also forced Boston's Catholic Charities to shut down its century-old adoption agency because it would not pledge to place children in homosexual-led households against Catholic teaching.

"Given Romney's extensive pro-homosexual record and willingness now to depart from principle on this crucial issue, should we trust a 'President Romney' not to reverse course again on federal pro-homosexual laws such as 'Hate Crimes' and ENDA (Employment Nondiscrimination Act)?" LaBarbera said.

The following is excerpted from Romney's "Meet the Press" interview December 16 with Tim Russert:

MR. RUSSERT: You said [in 1994] that you would sponsor [Sen. Ted Kennedy's federal] Employment Nondiscrimination Act. Do you still support it?

GOV. ROMNEY: At the state level. I think it makes sense at the state level for states to put in provision of this.

MR. RUSSERT: Now, you said you would sponsor it at the federal level.

GOV. ROMNEY: I would not support at the federal level, and I changed in that regard because I think that policy makes more sense to be evaluated or to be implemented at the state level.

Republicans For Family Values is a website dedicated to defending pro-life and pro-natural-family principles within the GOP. For identification purposes only, LaBarbera is also president of Americans For Truth about Homosexuality.

Where Does Mike Huckabee Stand On Marriage

I support and have always supported passage of a federal constitutional amendment that defines marriage as a union between one man and one woman. As President, I will fight for passage of this amendment. My personal belief is that marriage is between one man and one woman, for life.

No other candidate has supported traditional marriage more consistently and steadfastly than I have. While Massachusetts was allowing homosexuals to marry, I got a constitutional amendment passed in Arkansas in 2002 defining marriage as between one man and one woman. I got Arkansas to become only the third state to adopt "covenant" marriage. My wife Janet and I upgraded our vows on Valentine's Day, 2005. Today, many churches in Arkansas will perform only covenant marriages, so I'm hoping we'll see a decline in our divorce rates.

The late Cardinal O'Connor decried a domestic partnership law (which provided that all couples who signed up, whether heterosexual or homosexual, would be treated the same as married couples) as legislating that "marriage doesn't matter." I agree with the Cardinal that marriage does matter, I would add that nothing in our society matters more. Our true strength doesn't come from our military or our gross national product, it comes from our families. What's the point of keeping the terrorists at bay in the Middle East if we can't keep decline and decadence at bay here at home? The growing number of children born out of wedlock and the rise in no-fault divorce have been a disaster for our society. They have pushed many women and children into poverty and onto the welfare, food stamp, and Medicaid rolls. These children are more likely to drop out of school and end up in low-paying, dead-end jobs, they are more likely to get involved with drugs and crime, they are more likely to have children out of wedlock or get divorced themselves someday, continuing the unhappy cycle.

My wife Janet and I celebrated our thirty-third wedding anniversary this past May. For us, every anniversary is a miracle. When we were both twenty and married just over a year, when I was in my last semester of college, Janet was diagnosed with cancer of the spine. I can't tell you what a stunning blow it was - two kids just starting out, you don't think something like that can happen when you're so young. Yet there we were, staring death in the face. At first, they told us that even if she lived, she might be paralyzed from the waist down, so I'd be a young man with an invalid wife. After I learned she wouldn't be paralyzed, I was told that because of the radiation she had to receive following surgery, we'd probably never have children. I wanted children very much, I couldn't imagine never being a father. During that time, a lot of things went through my mind. But one thing never did - the thought of leaving her. If Janet were in a wheelchair today, if we'd never had children, I can tell you this - she would still be my wife.

Rudy Giuliani: The Republican Bill Clinton

An excerpt from an article by John Hawkins;

Perhaps the biggest oddity of the Republican primary season so far has been that GOP voters keep saying that they want another Reagan, the candidates keep comparing themselves to Reagan at every opportunity, and yet the man who is leading in the national polls, Rudy Giuliani, is about as far apart from Reagan as it's possible to get ideologically while still remaining in the Republican Party. Rudy Giuliani is no Reagan. What he is, and what he would be if he gets the nomination, is our Bill Clinton.

Consider a few things.

Yes, Bill Clinton was impeached for perjury, not for having an affair, but conservatives relentlessly bashed Bill Clinton throughout the nineties for cheating on his wife and degrading the office. Well, morally Rudy Giuliani is every bit as sleazy as Bill Clinton.

Giuliani's Mistress Used The NYC Police Department As Her Personal Taxi Service

From the ABC News Blotter:

Well before it was publicly known he was seeing her, then-married New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani provided a police driver and city car for his mistress Judith Nathan, former senior city officials tell the Blotter on ABCNews.com.

"She used the PD as her personal taxi service," said one former city official who worked for Giuliani.

Where Does Mike Huckabee Stand On The Issues

Faith and Politics

Health Care

The health care system in this country is irrevocably broken, in part because it is only a "health care" system, not a "health" system. We don't need universal health care mandated by federal edict or funded through ever-higher taxes. We do need to get serious about preventive health care instead of chasing more and more dollars to treat chronic disease, which currently gobbles up 80% of our health care costs, and yet is often avoidable. The result is that we'll be able to deliver better care where and when it's needed.

2nd Amendment Rights

No candidate has a stronger, more consistent record on Second Amendment rights than I do. But they were still concerned that the system could fail, and that we might someday face a new tyranny from our own government. They wanted us to be able to defend ourselves, and that's why they gave us the Second Amendment.

NYC Paid The Bills For Rudy Giuliani's Extramarital Affair

An excerpt from the NY Times:

Late in his tenure as mayor of New York, Rudolph W. Giuliani billed tens of thousands of dollars in travel expenses to little-known city agencies as he was beginning an extramarital affair, a political Web site reported yesterday.

The report, on the Politico Web site, cited documents obtained under the New York State Freedom of Information Law. But it was unclear from those documents whether Mr. Giuliani allocated those travel costs, from 1999 through 2001, to obscure city offices in an attempt to conceal expenses associated with the relationship or for some accounting purpose.
